Ballater Active Sports

Ballater is the place to be if you are interested in your extreme sports. Up in the highlands, you will be able to combine a short break Scotland with your passion for extreme riding.

Ballater is home to the International Mountain Bike Association, as the region has been just awarded the top place to go mountain biking in the whole world for the second year in a row. Consisting of nature trails and centres, Ballater is on the eastern side of the Cairngorms and therefore based on a terrain that is perfect for mountain biking. The side roads will give you an insight into the local nature whilst the forest trails and track descents will allow you to flex your skills all week long. If you are interested in hiring a bike, Cycle Highlands in the area was formed in 2004 and has since become a leading rental company in the area. Specialising in hire, having the widest range of bikes in the whole of Aberdeenshire, corporate events, main brands and providing any tips or advice that they too can impart, this is a great place to hire with. The free parking and test-ride areas ensure that buying a bike also doesn’t have to be a challenge.

The other obvious choice of sport in the area would be skiing during the winter. Cycle Highlands also have a ski hire service during times when there is a good level of snow in the area. Located right next to the Glenshee and Lecht Centres, they are in a perfect position to hire your skis and hit the slopes. To access the area, turn off onto the A93, around sixteen miles away from Ballater.it is advised by the company that you should try to arrive early so that you can avoid the queues during peak seasons.

There is a reason why Ballater is world-renown for its extreme sports. The rough topography and large number of hotels in Ballater ensure that millions of athletes flock to the area every year. But as always, it is advised to be cautious of one’s surroundings and that safety should always be a key priority whilst in the region.
