In recent years, Baku has grown in popularity as a tourist destination. In fact, it has even earned itself the nickname ‘Party Capital of the East’! This lively metropolis combines ancient history with colourful contemporary culture – as you’ll soon discover for yourself, when you book a stay at one of the many luxurious Baku hotels.

Baku also hosts a large number of festivals and cultural events throughout the year… so here’s a low-down of the top three to check out.

1. The Baku Jazz Festival

Perhaps the most famous of them is the Baku Jazz Festival. This is the largest annual event held anywhere in Azerbaijan, and attracts thousands of visitors each year. You’ll be able to enjoy a wide variety of jazz styles, and performances from some of the world’s finest musicians. If you have an interest in jazz, then the festival really is a must-see.

2. International Mugam Festival

Every year in March, Baku hosts the musical ‘Mugam Festival’. Taking place in the Chamber and Pipe Organ Concert Hall of Baku, the festival celebrates the unique Azerbaijani style of music known as ‘Mugam’. Mugam is enjoyed far and wide across the country, but only in Baku does the genre benefit from its own dedicated festival!

3. Eid al-Adha

In November the people of Baku observe the Muslim festival known as Eid al-Adha. These festivities celebrate the faith that Abraham showed in God, when he offered up his own son for sacrifice. During the festival, traditional lamb dishes are enjoyed throughout the city of Baku, and the streets come alive with colourful processions and lively music. Book a stay at a central Baku hotel, and you’ll find yourself right at the heart of the festival!

These three festivals are just a taster of the many exciting events on offer around the city of Baku – so pay a visit for yourself, and explore the many other lively celebrations that contribute to making Baku one of the most colourful cities in the East.
