They’ll Never Walk Alone – The Liverpool FC Story

Anfield stadium was initially the home of Everton FC, another first-rate Liverpool based side, until the club had a dispute with Anfield’s owner and moved out. Now a team was needed for the stadium and, thus, Liverpool FC was formed in 1892.
Everton have remained one of Liverpool’s arch rivals ever since. Each time the 2 teams are drawn up to play one another, it is known as the ‘Merseyside Derby’ and such matches have been known to get pretty heated.

Anfield stadium is based near Stanley Park, close to plenty of Liverpool city centre hotels, which is ideal as Liverpool FC now have fans all over the world just dying to visit the famous, historic stadium. The club has one of the highest numbers of supporters worldwide, with fan clubs in over 30 countries.

Liverpool won its debut in the Lancashire League and was promoted to the National Second Division, which it again went on to win. In the First Division they won again in 1901 and 1906. By 1914 they were in the FA Cup Final against Burnley.

Liverpool have since gone on to claim the most European titles of any English club – 11 in total. They also hold the record for 7 League Cups and the second highest number of League titles at 18 and counting.

Some say that the secret to Liverpool’s success is the incredible support they get from their fan base. Their home games attract record numbers of fans for every game. Liverpool FC are also known as ‘The Reds’ for the all red strip they’ve used for home games since 1960s.

Their anthem is ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ based on the tune from Carousel, the 1945 musical and the 1963 Merseybeat rendition, performed by Liverpool band Gerry and the Pacemakers. These 4 words feature on the club’s crest and on the gates above Anfield. See them for yourself by staying in a Liverpool centre hotel. Catch a home game and feel the magic of Anfield for yourself.
