The Museum of London is one of locations that every visitor to London should take some extra time to explore. In some ways it’s like many other museums, but the expansiveness and comprehensive nature of their collections is what sets this museum apart from the rest. It is so large that visitors are encouraged to set some time apart, more time than perhaps other attractions, so they can experience the depth and breadth of their cultural offerings.
Though September 4th, 2011 the museum will be featuring an exhibition on “London Street Photography”. Various styles and approaches are explored from the well known to the amateur shutterbug that thrives making images at the street level.
“Street Cries” is an exhibition that shows how the poor were depicted in art between the 17th and 19th century. Most early art showed the lives of street traders, and strangely enough these art pieces found a loyal following in urban London.
“Hidden” is a retrospective of Photograph Tableaus that stage and depict key moments in history. Red Saunders is the photographer of record for the exhibit. And finally “London Sleeps” is an exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of the Blitz through the eyes of an artist waiting out the violence in air raid shelters under London. She later turned many of the images into full sized paintings.
These are just four of the rotating exhibits the Museum has to offer. To take in the full scope of their offerings would take more than one visit. So, for those who can afford vacation rentals London starts to show its true colors and vibrancy. From a holiday apartment London can become more like a second home than simply a vacation destination, and you can explore the city as it should be explored…in detail.
